Welcome to our Fitness Challenge page! Are you ready to take your fitness to the next level? Our fitness challenges are designed to help you build strength, improve endurance, and achieve your fitness goals. We offer challenges that will focus on a variety of interests including cardio, strength training, walking/running endurance, and frequency tailored to push you beyond your limits.

Our team of experienced trainers and coaches have assembled these challenges ad will guide you every step of the way, providing support, motivation, and accountability to help you stay on track and achieve your goals. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or new to exercise, our challenge is the perfect way to challenge yourself and reach your full potential.

Upcoming Fitness Challenge Options

Start off with a 10-second plank on June 1st, and continuously add 10 seconds to the plank of your choice every day until July 13th. At the end of the challenge, witness the incredible progress you've made!

How to do a plank:

  1. Begin in Tabletop.
  2. Inhale and extend the sternum away from the navel, opening across the chest and coming into a Cow tilt.
  3. Maintaining this intention, exhale and practice just enough Cat tilt to simultaneously tone the lower belly, losing any trace of a backbend in the lower back.
  4. Remember this combination of Cat/Cow tilts, then move your feet back and straighten your legs.
  5. Lift the tops of the thighs to the ceiling while descending the tailbone to the floor in order to create a slight posterior tilt in the pelvis and become compact at your center.
  6. Your lower belly should feel like a tray supporting your lower back.
  7. Maintain tone in the pit of your abdomen while extending your sternum forward and pressing your heels back.
  8. Hold for 10 seconds.
  9. Add 10 seconds to your plan daily.

Get ready to pedal your way to the beach with our exciting fitness challenge: Bike to the Beach! Join us as we embark on a thrilling journey where participants challenge themselves to log biking mileage equivalent to the distance from their current location to their favorite beaches.

Spin classes, seated biking, or outdoor biking counts!

Our fitness staff records your maximum bench press, squat, and deadlift. Based on your overall total, ladies join the 200-500 lbs. club, and gentlemen join the 700-1000 lbs. lifting club! (You get a t-shirt) Drop-in anytime from 5:30 am - 7:00 pm Monday - Friday starting July 15-19th. When you are ready to max out tell our staff and your lift will be judged for the club. You will receive three attempts per lift and judged by our fitness staff.

This challenge is design for the seniors! Stop by the front desk to grab your Challenge Punch Card, Visit the YMCA 10 times during the month of February and turn in your completed punch card to the member services desk to be entered for a chance to win an awesome gift basket! Eligible visits include all forms of exercise and social gatherings within or hosted by the Gaston County Family YMCA. Members can turn in more than 1 card within the month to increase their chances at winning the gift basket!
