Developing Confident, Competitive Swimmers

The YMCA Swim Club and YMCA Swim Teams are designed for swimmers who are ready for the next level! Swimmers will improve their technique, learn teamwork, and build endurance. Along with swimming, there is an emphasis on building confidence and leadership skills. Swimmers must have a working knowledge of the four competitive strokes and pass the green level “swimming skills assessment.” Please note that Swim Club and Swim Team are coached from the pool deck; swimmers must know their strokes and swim independently.

Swim Club runs throughout the year consecutively with our Group Swim Lessons.

Swim Team participates in a summer league swimming against other area YMCAs.

Swim Club

Swim Club is a great way for kids who love to swim but don’t care about competing. It’s also a great way for competitive swimmers to stay fit and sharpen their skills in the off-season.

Proficient swimmers aged 6-15.
Swimmers work to improve their strokes, times, starts, and turns

Swim Team

Kids who swim on a team discover so much more than their athletic abilities. They experience a sense of belonging and learn what working together accomplishes. They gain confidence and strive to reach goals with each new practice and meet.

Participants will discover the joy of being part of a team while striving to reach their personal best. It’s a great way for elementary-aged kids and teens to make friends, have fun and enjoy a little bit of friendly competition.

TALENTED COACHES WHO CARE
Our coaches know how to encourage fun while maximizing individual potential and promoting swimming in the community. To provide quality coaching and development for each team member, swimmers are placed in practice groups based on ability, commitment level, age, and peer group.

POOL AREA GUIDELINES

The Gaston County Family YMCA is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable pool experience for all. All children aged 15 and under must take a swimming skills assessment. Successful participants earn a green, yellow, or no swim band if they successfully complete the assessment. Swim bands assist our lifeguards in keeping inexperienced swimmers safe.

Please ensure that you register with an accurate, frequently checked email account in order to receive all our important program communication. We are as invested as you are in ensuring you get all the details you need to make your week run smoothly. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
