Gaston County Family YMCA Announces Updates on
Transitioning Indoor Programming from the William J. Pharr Family Branch to Nearby YMCA Locations

McADENVILLE, NC (September 18, 2024) – In our ongoing commitment to efficiently serve Gaston County and McAdenville, the Gaston County Family YMCA will transition indoor programming from the William J. Pharr Family Branch by December 23, 2024. Members can continue using the other locations at Stowe, Warlick, and Cherryville YMCA branches.

The YMCA is incredibly grateful for our 20 plus years at the Pharr location. We are so grateful to the community and to the Pharr Company for their generosity of the use of the facility.  Bill Carstarphen, CEO of Pharr, commented, “We are extremely grateful for the partnership we’ve had with the Gaston County Family YMCA over the years. We believe there will be plenty of opportunities to partner with the YMCA in the future, like activities along the newly expanded Carolina Thread Trail through town, serving as what will be an important segment of the 23-mile Matthews-Belk South Fork Corridor trail running from Spencer Mountain to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Additionally, we have the trails and facilities at McAdenville Greenway Park plus our plans to preserve about 20 acres of riverfront greenspace for future events and offerings.”

This transition is part of a broader effort to optimize our resources, leveraging recent groundbreaking for the renovation and expansion project at the Stowe Family YMCA and the expanded Warlick Family YMCA. Despite the closure of the Pharr Family YMCA building, members will retain full access to our other locations and continue enjoying our programs and services within the community, including youth sports, group exercise classes, and holiday events.

Youth sports have already been relocated to the Town of Ranlo and the City of Lowell community fields, and we are excited about this new partnership. Gymnastics programming will remain at the Pharr building through May 2025. Afterschool programs will continue at the Pharr building through the end of the school year 2024-2025.

Members of the Pharr Family YMCA will have no disruption to their membership. You will continue to have access to other Gaston Family YMCAs and all community programs. We will continue to offer as many of our group exercise classes at satellite locations or at other branches. For any questions or membership changes, please visit any Gaston County Family YMCA location or contact us directly.

Your membership not only supports our day-to-day operations but also allows us to continue offering vital programs in our community, including gymnastics, youth sports, group exercise classes, afterschool care, summer camps, and community events. Without your dedication, we wouldn’t be able to provide these important services.

Thank you for being part of our YMCA family and for your unwavering support. We are excited about the future and look forward to continuing to serve you through our expanded and enhanced facilities.
