With 24-Hour Access at the McGill Family YMCA, you can work out whenever it works best for you. Whether you’re an early riser, a night owl, or need to squeeze in a workout after a long shift, the Y is here for you, anytime, day or night.
24-Hour Access is available for Gaston County Family YMCA members ages 18 and up.

Hannon Gym (current location of cardio and strength equipment)
⚠️ Please note: Only Hannon Gym will be accessible during 24-hour access; the rest of the YMCA will remain locked.

24 Hour Access Rules
- No entry without first signing a 24-Hour Access Waiver. Please visit us during normal staffed hours to complete this waiver or log into your account online to sign the waiver.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- One entrance per scan. Please do not scan more than one card at a time.
- Each member must scan their card to get in.
- 24 Hour Access is for Gaston County YMCA members only.
- There will be no staff on-site outside our normal operation hours.
- No guests allowed during these times. Members who let others in who do not have access will be charged $50 and possibly lose their membership.
- No access for Guests or Nationwide Members
Safety & Security Information
- There are no staff on duty
- Entry is secured with your membership scan card, and the facility is equipped with 24-hour video recording systems that are reviewed regularly to help ensure safety and security.
- For your safety, we strongly encourage you to work out with another member who also has 24-hour access.
- Controlled entry through membership cards
- Camera monitoring 24/7
- Emergency exits remain alarmed and locked at all times
- Doors automatically lock during power outages as a safety feature
- Please make yourself familiar with the Emergency Phone location
Getting Started
Current Members:
Current members may access the facility using their membership barcode once a waiver has been signed.
New Members:
Join during staffed hours, and our team will help set up your access.
New Members Who Join Online:
Online membership sign-ups and upgrades take up to 48 hours to process before your 24-Hour Access becomes active.
If you would like to begin using 24-Hour Access sooner, please visit the McGill Family YMCA during normal staffed hours so our team can manually activate your access.
All Members Must Scan In
For the safety and security of everyone, all members must scan in individually when entering the facility. Entry is granted one scan per person, not per family or group. Sharing a card or allowing others to enter without scanning is not permitted and may result in penalties or loss of access privileges.
Guests Are Not Permitted
Each scan card allows entry for one member only. Guests are not permitted during 24-hour access.
Nationwide Members
24 Hour Access is only available for Gaston County Family YMCA members. It is not available for Nationwide members at this time.

McGill Family YMCA 24/7 Access FAQ
Will staff be available during 24 Hour access hours?
Staff will still be available during our normal operating hours, but not during extended 24/7 access times.
How is safety and security handled?
The facility is monitored by cameras at all times. Access is controlled through membership scan cards, and cleaning/maintenance will continue as usual.
What is the minimum age for 24 Hour access?
Members must be 18 years or older.
Which entrance do I use?
The door to Hannon Gym, located to the left of the main entrance, will be used for entry and exit. All other doors will remain locked and used for emergency exit only.
Are the other exits available?
No. All other doors are emergency exit only and alarmed.
How do I access the building after hours?
Use your YMCA membership scan card or your Y360 mobile scan card for entry. One scan allows one entry per member.
What happens if someone sneaks in a guest?
Any member who allows unauthorized entry will be fined $50 and risks losing their membership.
Is nationwide membership access included?
No. 24 Hour access is only available for Gaston County Family YMCA members.
What areas of the Y are available during 24 Hour access?
- Hannon Gym (current location of cardio and strength equipment)
- Restrooms
What areas are not available?
All areas of the YMCA outside of Hannon Gym are not available during 24/7 access.
Will I need to sign a waiver?
Yes, you will need to complete a waiver online or at our front desk during regularly staffed hours before you can access the facility during the 24-hour times.
When does 24 Hour access begin?
Testing is underway, with a full launch scheduled for Monday, May 4th.
Is Wi-Fi available after hours?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available.
Can I sign up online and enter immediately?
No. New members joining online must wait until normal business hours for their membership to be activated for 24/7 access. Online registrations cannot be used immediately in the parking lot.
How does 24 Hour access work for new members?
Access will be granted manually by YMCA staff during the creation of your membership.
What happens if the internet or phones go down?
Access is backed up and should continue to work if the internet or phones are temporarily down.
What happens during a power outage?
Doors will lock and remain locked as a safety feature. Members will not be able to enter until power is restored.
